Professor Matharu trained at The University of Manchester and completed his general medical training in London leading up to obtaining the MRCP in 1998. He subsequently obtained a PhD at The UCL Institute of Neurology, Queen Square, London. He completed his residency in Neurology at The National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, The Royal London Hospital and Homerton Hospital in London in 2007 before taking up his current post. Professor Matharu is a member of the Headache and Pain subcommittee of the Association of British Neurologists. He was a member of the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) guideline development group (GDG) for Headache Disorders.
Dr Tim Yates has been a Consultant Neurologist at the North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust, and Honorary Consultant at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery in the Headache and Facial Pain Group, since 2021. After qualifying with distinction from Cambridge, Tim trained at Addenbrooke’s and then in London at University College Hospital, with higher clinical and academic training in neurology at Queen Square and the Royal Free. Tim sees inequality as a contributor to the development of chronic migraine and headache morbidity in general. He is looking to develop a specialist headache service at the North Middlesex, which serves one of the UK’s most deprived areas. As Trust Chief Medical Information Officer, with a long-standing interest in clinical informatics, he is examining how modern population health data approaches can reduce inequalities in headache care.
