Funding and distribution

All patients have Genotropin initiated in secondary care, which can be dispensed and distributed via:

  • Hospital

Initial prescriptions and, occasionally, repeat prescriptions can be dispensed via a hospital pharmacy

  • Community

Repeat prescriptions can be dispensed via a community pharmacy

  • Homecare

Our homecare service can deliver Genotropin direct to your patient


  • Medicines dispensed for use outside of a hospital, via an embedded community pharmacy or homecare services are exempt from VAT
  • When prescribed in secondary care, the local commissioner (clinical comissioning group) is responsible for funding the cost of treatment
  • Management of the condition is the responsibility of the providing NHS trust, excluding the cost of the human GH somatropin
