Ready Rufus – Find Professor Tapps is a boardgame that implements game-based learning to teach children aged 7 and older and their carers about haemophilia.
The aim of the game is to guide Rufus through 4 different scenes: The Leaky Lakes, The Whistling Woods, The Misty Marshes and The Slippery Slopes by rolling a dice to move forward spaces.
The game has two levels of play: Inventor and Apprentice. The level of play chosen determines the difficulty of the questions asked. By playing this game, children can learn about what to do in the event of them falling and hurting themselves, which can save important minutes in treating their injury and preventing them gaining a more substantial injury.
There are further 'Ready Rufus' materials that can help children to manage their haemophilia in a fun way. These include a sleepover checklist which helps to teach them not to forget their factor product, as well as an educational brochure giving age appropriate information on haemophilia.
